Mathematics is already experiencing it head-on, and physics is now beginning to as well.

We think this is the right moment to reflect together on how AI will transform the way we do physics — from theory to experiment — and also the way we publish, hire and train; and on how to use it well, keeping our role as researchers at the centre. These questions matter for researchers, and even more for students, PhD candidates and early-career researchers, whose training and careers will unfold in this new context.

Three strands

The seminar is organised around three kinds of talks:

Perspectives — overviews of how AI could transform the discipline, its practices and education; societal issues (sovereignty, energy consumption).

Results — the physics content of new results obtained with AI, and how AI was used to obtain them.

Methods — how to use AI in physics, for researchers, PhD candidates and students.

How to take part

Sessions take different formats — talks followed by an open discussion, round tables, series of informal presentations — and are held in room Conf. IV at the Laboratoire de Physique of the ENS, 24 rue Lhomond, Paris. They are open to everyone. Announcements are sent to the mailing list, and slides, recordings and notes are collected under Resources. Suggestions for speakers and topics are welcome: write to the organisers.

AI heralds a profound change in every scientific discipline.
